Where to buy an olive tree? 5 tips for olive tree hunters!

You are looking for a perfect olive tree. Where do you find it? Finca Hermosa gives you tips in the search for an old, healthy olive tree.

#1 – Get the tree from Spain
It depends on what kind of tree you are looking for. Are you interested in a young olive tree, then you should get it from a local grower. If there are no local growers, then search for an olive tree nursery.

However, if you are looking for an old olive tree, it is wise to look for a good nursery in southern Europe. Finca Hermosa is a 550.000 m2 tree nursery in Spain. The trees have grown up in their natural habitat, so you get a healthy tree. Did you know that some of our trees are more than 1.000 years old?

#2 – Ask for pictures
You first want to see if an olive tree fits your garden or patio. Ask for pictures (multiple sides) and ask for dimensions. In that case you can find a perfect tree.

#3 – Ask for certificates
Quality and durability are important concerns. Find out if an olive company is certified (PPQS and MPS). For instance, Finca Hermosa is PPQS (Plant Production Quality System) as well as MPS certified. These certifications are just another example of the professionalism that is engrained in Finca Hermosa and emphasizes to our customers how highly quality is taken here at the nursery.

#4 – Get a quote
The price is important. You don’t want to pay too much for an olive tree, but you also don’t want to pay too little. Weird, right? No, let us explain at #4.

#5 – Shipping and placement
One of the most important aspects of buying an olive tree is shipping and placement. An olive tree is fragile. Trees normally don’t travel. The journey is long and the destination can be cold, windy or very hot. If the tree dies during transport or shortly after placement, then it is a big loss for nature and for your wallet. Choose a certified olive tree company that can ship and plant the olive tree and that gives a guarantee. Finca Hermosa offers the possibility of having an expert gardener at your disposal as the tree arrives.
